2021 RESEARCH ROUNDUP

Did you publish an article, chapter or book in 2021 related to sex and sexual cultures? Add your publication to our 2021 research roundup by completing this form. You can also email us at screeningsex@gmail.com.

WELCOME TO NEW BAFTSS SIG MEMBERS

We have just received the latest member list for the Screening Sex BAFTSS Special Interest Group (SIG) and are delighted to be welcoming 29 new members, bringing our SIG member list to 92. It is particularly great to see so many postgraduates and ECRs joining the SIG and we are keen to hear about your research. We encourage any new members to add their bios to the Screening Sex network page so we can share your research across the wider Screening Sex network.

BAFTSS CONFERENCE 2022

We hope a number of network members will be submitting and presenting their research at the upcoming BAFTSS conference. The conference will take place online 20–22 April 2022, hosted by the University of St Andrews.

BAFTSS allow us to put forward one SIG-sponsored panel and so we are inviting paper proposals from our members in order to form a panel. The main conference theme is collaboration and cross-pollination and we encourage proposals that explore and interpret this theme in relation to sex on screen and sexual cultures.

In the spirit of the conference theme, this conference places emphasis on discussion and debate rather than a traditional paper/questions format. Each panellist will present for 10 minutes on the day of the panel, with the other panellists acting as respondents, generating questions and comments. Rough papers, notes, and/or slides will be circulated to the other panellists a week in advance to facilitate this discussion. This is to encourage more constructive discussion and engagement, and to preserve the conference as a space for works in progress.

Please send abstracts of no more than 250 words, as well as your name, affiliation, email address and short biography (150 words max) to screeningsex@gmail.com by 10 December. More details at screeningsex.com. We look forward to receiving your proposals!

We will be holding our annual SIG meeting as part of the conference and look forward to seeing you there.
